Data are raw facts that must be processed, organized and interpreted to become meaningful information.

Data
This refers to raw or unprocessed facts or statistics. Data may either be quantitative-describing something by numbers or quantitative-describing by words. The test scores that a student earns are data.

Information
Data that has already been processed, organized, and interpreted to mean something and contribute value. Information is contextual as well as meaningful. For example, the average class score is an information gathered through the data presented by the student's test score.

Knowledge
The aggregation of past experience and insight that informs how a person perceives and assigns meaning to information. Knowledge is unique to the individual and comprises other elements like experience and intuition.

Few examples of data Vs information

Student height and weight

Recording the height and weight of a student is data, but information is the average height and weight of that student for each year.

Shoe sales

The bill shown on a receipt is data, while the data collected by the till for the sales over some time period is information.
